Rest in peace old Taylor, because the new Taylor is back and better than ever. Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album Reputation was released on streaming services on November 10, 2017. This is her second pop album since 1989 which was widely successful after leaving her country roots. Reputation is Taylor’s most intimate album yet, expressing how it feels to stop caring what others think and just let your life happen.

The album, which includes fifteen songs, is cutting edge, exposing Taylor’s flaws, even as she welcomes new ideas and challenges. Taylor’s lead single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” was released on August 2. This wildly controversial hit aired her resentment towards the media and mistreatment by other celebrities. This release sparked gossip regarding whether the album would be a pity party. However, Reputation proved to be much more than than this.

The album is filled with mature, emotional love songs, such as “Dancing With Our Hands Tied” and “King of My Heart,” which describe romance and relationships on a deeper level and dive into the darker side of passion. In other songs, like “I Did Something Bad,” and “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” Taylor owns up to having toyed around with narcissists and describes a friend who stabbed her in the back, revealing the more tenacious, rogue side of the album.

The most notable and remarkable song on Reputation, “Getaway Car,” recounts a love triangle that starts out somewhere sophisticated and ends up cheap and tawdry, portraying the idea that “nothing good starts in a getaway car.”

“End Game” includes aspects of R&B, and features artists Future and Ed Sheeran, making for an unexpected trio.
…..The album is full of catchy hooks and well-built bridges, exhibiting exceptional meaningful lyrics. Swift saves her best song for last and ends the album perfectly with an acoustic ballad, “New Year’s Day,” which balances the many electro-pop songs in the album.

Reputation explores deeper places and is more introspective than most of Taylor’s previous work. The album is an aggressive, powerful display of craftsmanship that fully embraces modern pop, including qualities of rock and R&B through percussion and melodies. Taylor Swift’s Reputation embodies a new side of her music, introducing different sounds and challenges, while she takes ownership of her narrative in a way that nobody has heard before.
