Students in Advanced Photography participated in the 2018 Media Arts Show, held on March 13. Among the PMHS students recognized for their work were sophomore Anna Larsen and senior Audrey Lee, who received presidential awards.

The Media Arts Show is run by the New York State Media Arts Teachers Association. Participating students selected some of their own pieces to be critiqued by judges, and were free to choose whichever photos they wanted to send in, as there was no theme or topic specified.

Anna Larsen received presidential awards for all of her pieces. Her favorite among them is a photo of Manhattan because of the black and white colors and contrast in the buildings.

“I was inspired by what was around me,” Larsen said.

Audrey Lee also received presidential awards for the pieces she submitted.

“I was surprised when I heard I got a presidential award because our class submitted our work into the contest for fun and all five of my pieces got picked,” Lee said. “My favorite piece is a pair of glasses that I photographed. It has many different bright colors that are being illuminated through the frame and lenses.”

Audrey and Anna both find that their passion for art greatly contributed to their success and have only heightened their fascination for photography.

“I always loved creative outlets such as computer design, drawing, and sketching, and I only got into it this year and I’ve learned that I love photography and capturing moments of art in everyday life,” Lee said.
