On February 3, during an executive committee meeting, the New York Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), announced that all spring state championship events are canceled. While athletes are hopeful for a normal spring season, this will be the second spring championships canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYSPHSAA tweeted out after their meeting, “After listening to concerns from the 11 NYPHSAA sections, the 11 section members schools, the NYSPHSAA officers have approved the cancellation of the 2021 NYSPHAA Spring Championships,”.

“Certainly, a difficult decision, however at this time our focus must be on maximum participation of students. Making this announcement now provides schools and Sections with the flexibility to appropriately plan & schedule the remaining seasons of the 2020-2021 school year,” Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA executive director, said.

All spring sports will officially start on April 19. Division and section finals for these sports have not been scheduled yet, but it is anticipated that they will happen.
