Sophomore Maddie Horner and senior Cindy Wang competed at the 2022 New York State High School Swimming Championship in Webster, NY on November 18-19.

Both Wang and Horner qualified for the 200 IM, and Horner in the 100 butterfly as well. In Webster, Wang was 34th place in the 200 IM and Horner was 42nd in the 100 fly and 21st in 200 IM, qualifying for finals.

“States was a really great experience, and I loved meeting swimmers all around the state and the section,” said Wang.

The state championships shortly followed the section 1 championships in early November where both swimmers had successful meets with Horner winning eighth place and twelfth place and Wang winning fifth place and ninth place, earning an all-section plaque.

Both Horner and Wang train under Carle Fierro at the Westchester Aquatic Club, training 6-7 days a week. This was the first state championship for these team veterans who have been representing the school since middle school.

“Representing the school and travelling to such a fast meet felt amazing,” said Horner.
Horner hopes to return next Fall.
