The 5th Ave Fire Station is officially open and running, and the municipal center is finalizing its last touches. For the first time in over 97 years, the fire station headquarters at 219 Fifth Ave is no longer occupied and it is being moved to the newly built headquarters down the street. The station was constructed to upgrade the department’s operational capabilities and infrastructure by replacing an outdated building. In order to meet the expanding demands of the community and guarantee a more effective emergency response, this new station has larger spaces and more contemporary amenities. The Pelham citizens are very happy about this new addition to the town, and not only is this new building home to the new fire station, but it is part of a much bigger project.
Many years ago the town realized it was going to cost at least 17 million dollars to keep many of the old buildings standing including the old fire station, police station, and village hall. The town decided to sell the land where the old fire station was located to a developer building new housing and new storefronts. The deal was set in 2019 that allowed this new developer to build the 127-unit mixed-use development on the formerly town-owned property. In return, the developer agreed to cover all costs, estimated at around 20 million dollars, to build the new municipal center that will be the home of the fire station, police department, and village hall. The first phase of the building started in 2023 and the building is expected to be completely finished by March 2025. The town is excited about the new fire station and is excited for the building’s additions to join it.
It will be interesting to observe how the new municipal center enhances Pelham’s sense of community as it gets closer to completion. Residents will probably feel even closer to their local government and services because of its state-of-the-art amenities and enhanced public interaction areas. Additionally, this project establishes a solid foundation for future town developments by demonstrating that careful planning and teamwork can result in sustainable growth without sacrificing the area’s attractiveness. Pelham’s future will be shaped by striking a balance between conserving its past and welcoming innovation as it develops further. In the end, this new municipal center and fire station signify not only an improvement to the town’s physical infrastructure but also a dedication to building a prosperous, resilient community for future generations. As the development brings new housing and storefronts, it’s likely to spark a revitalization in the surrounding areas, attracting more businesses and residents. With increased foot traffic and fresh energy in the town, Pelham could see a surge in local commerce and community-driven initiatives.
