Art Club is one of the many clubs offered at Pelham, yet one could say it stands out from the rest in its principle goal to foster creativity. This club, led by co-presidents Renee Ai and Ella Dinatale and vice president Franco Paolucci, is held every Tuesday from 3:15 to 4 in Ms. Cherashore’s room. Typically, meetings begin with a presentation. “I make a slideshow every week of a different art prompt and describe what the project will be. So far we’ve made cards for the nursing home and delivered them and held a nature project focusing on landscapes. We’ve also done a cartoon project focusing on doodling,” President Dinatale said. Projects are balanced between general structure and the allowing of members to have complete and total creative freedom. In their most recent meeting, Art Club’s theme was “create your own monster.” Everyone got to use any materials available in order to create their version of a silly monster. For their next meeting, the presidents are thinking of doing a love theme for Valentine’s Day, including creating things related to cupid and hearts. The mediums used and skill level vary from project to project, meaning that there is always something for everyone.
Members attend Art Club for many reasons. “I think people go to Art Club because it’s something fun to do, and it relieves stress,” Dinatale stated. Unlike other clubs, members don’t have to worry about fundraising or missing a meeting, because there is an entirely new project every week. The club provides a perfect atmosphere for members to unwind from a potentially stressful day, make new friends, and create something without worrying about it being perfect. Additionally, students in art electives are able to use this time to work on their projects in addition to the allotted academy period time.
Art Club’s presidents and vice presidents invite you to join them next Tuesday. Neither artistic experience nor prior attendance is necessary.
