The Varsity Girls’ Softball team has faced a tough start to their 2025 campaign, battling both strong opponents and the growing pains that come with a young roster. With several underclassmen stepping onto the varsity field for the first time, the season began as a learning curve filled with close losses and hard-fought innings. Despite the early struggles, the team has shown resilience and unity. Returning players have taken on leadership roles, guiding the newcomers through the intensity and expectations. “Compared to past seasons, this one has definitely been the most challenging, but the team has kept a positive and resilient attitude through it all,” said sophomore Zoe Lubin, reflecting on the uphill battle the team has faced.
That persistence finally paid off when the girls clinched their first victory of the season in a high-energy matchup against Sleepy Hollow, winning 14–9. It was a breakthrough moment for the squad, not just in the standings, but in morale. “Our game against Sleepy Hollow was the best our team has played all year, and it gave us a lot more confidence going into the rest of the season,” said sophomore Emma Namba.
The group of returning players has most certainly gone through a lot with each other these past couple of seasons, mainly due to the multiple coaching changes. However, the girls have developed a strong bond and have gotten through these many obstacles together, and they hope to share their bond with the newcomers on the team. There’s a clear focus on building team culture and instilling the same grit that carried them through previous seasons. “We’ve all been through a lot together,” noted sophomore Grace Ferreri.
While the scoreboard hasn’t always reflected it, the team’s progress is visible in their teamwork and determination. With more games ahead and a renewed sense of confidence, the team is focused on steady improvement and building a strong foundation for the future.
