Winter Season Preview: Hockey
November 27, 2017
Coaches: Ed Witz, Michael Cambria, Doc Minoff, and Bob Kelly
Player to Watch: Devin Alvarez
After winning the New York State Division Two Championship in Ice Hockey, Pelham coaches and players began to lock in on their next objective, repeating. With ten seniors graduating and a junior leaving for prep school, that goal became a little tougher.
“By mid-summer we had meetings to discuss personnel and roster changes. The State Championship is something we think about everyday, for sure, and it will never fade, but we have to get ready to defend the title as well,” Witz said.
The Pelham Hockey organization is well known for the hard work they put in during each off-season, but after losing such a big chunk of their roster, the team is looking for key new additions and experienced leaders to step up. Senior Devin Alvarez, who formerly played on the Iona Prep Varsity Hockey team, transferred to Pelham and has been preparing to take on an important role on the team’s top line.
Devin said, “I’m looking forward to a big year with Pelham. Personally, I know that I need to step up big and be the player my teammates need me to be. Pelham is one of the top hockey programs in New York State, so I’m really looking forward to having a fun year and want nothing more than to win with my team.”
