With open gyms, workouts, and official practices underway, the Pelham Boys
Basketball team is looking to have a bounce back season. Although they did make a playoff appearance last year, the players and coaches both felt that they didn’t reach their full potential as a team and definitely want to make up for it this year.

“I thought that our weakness was finding scoring from players other than Davis Allen last year and I think defensively for the most part we played well,” Coach Finegan said.

“This year, I think it’s going to be the opposite. I think we’re going to run a much more up-tempo style offense and through the first two weeks of practice what we’re really struggling with is defense,” he added.

With the new offense being run by their experienced 3 year player and captain Danny Friedman, the Pelham offense is looking to explode their way to victory in section one.

“Our goal is to shoot the ball within ten seconds of being past half court. We want to take a lot of three point shots rather than win a low scoring game led by our
defense. We want to double our shot attempts and be moving as much as possible,” Friedman said.

It is not always easy to master such a drastic change in strategy from only a year ago, especially in a limited amount of preseason practices, but the Pelicans are hoping to make the most of their practices and start the season on a strong note.
