On July 1, Pelham welcomed its second Director of Technology in as many years, John Sebalos, following the departure of former director Joseph Catania at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

Prior to coming to Pelham, Sebalos was an instructional technology specialist in both the Mahopac and North Rockland school districts. Sebalos was required to make a significant change just two months into his tenure here, after Catania switched the cataloging system for the district from Novell to Active Directory.

“We changed the way we catalogued all the users on the district’s network,” Sebalos said. “If you picture it as two different containers, you keep all your users in one container and you shift them to a different container.”

Sebalos also made chromebook registration entirely digital, and oversaw the addition of new interactive whiteboards as well as the replacement of several desktop computers.

One of Sebalos’ aims is to have a significant impact on Pelham’s teachers and students.

“Technology…can enhance the experience not only for [teachers], but the students they’re working with as well. I try to make decisions in the best interests of students,” he said.
