During his first year on varsity, freshman track and field athlete Thomas Shelton established himself as a fierce competitor with incredible skill. Shelton competes in the shot-put and weight throw events. According to athletic.net, Shelton is ranked number one in NYS and number seven in the United States among freshman in shot-put. Shelton’s successful season ended at the state-qualifier meet on February 17, when he placed 6th with his season best throw of 42 feet and 7.25 inches.

“Thomas has been outstanding this year,” varsity coach Mr. Leighton said. “He’s got a great attitude and is very coachable, meaning that he wants to get better, and is willing to put in the work to become better.” …..Not only is Shelton a very hard worker, but his teammates benefit from his presence and attitude throughout the long track season.

“[Thomas] made practices more enjoyable for everyone,” senior track athlete Gabe Sucena said. “He’s a really friendly and funny person which has helped the team progress through the season and let everyone relax a little bit more.”
