There are three words to describe America right now. One colossal catastrophe. President Trump destroyed all of former-President Obama’s work that improved the state of the nation. In addition to that, Trump took a blow at the country and the people himself, disadvantaging and ruining them. He is the first president ever in American history to be impeached twice for his lies, deception, incompetence, abuse of power, obstruction of justice, instigation of violence, and division. During the pandemic, all he has cared about are his own narcissistic, power-hungry needs. Saving lives, leading the people through this disaster, and controlling the spread of the disease came second to Trump. This goes to show how crucial a stable, qualified, and experienced leader is, especially in tough times like the one this nation is going through right now. America is sinking more and more each day, barely above the surface with Trump, the world’s largest narcissist as its president. In just a few days, Biden will be able to throw a life preserver to drag America to safety. When exiting office, Trump will be leaving behind a divided nation, ruined environment, weak education and healthcare system, ruined foreign affairs, hundreds of thousands dead from COVID, a discriminatory criminal justice system, bigots whom he encouraged, abominable immigration policies, and a ruined face of America. Biden’s hands will be full trying to rebuild the United States and restore its former glory. It is incomprehensible how much work there is to be done. Nonetheless, with Kamala Harris by his side, and an inspiring plan for the country, I have no doubt that Biden has what it takes to save America. Joe is a “man of the people”, and has shown he can connect well with everyone, especially because he is focused on improving the quality of life for all, specifically the working class.

Many Americans liked him as Obama’s VP, and he has said that he plans to continue Obama’s work. We cannot blame Biden for what he inherited, the only thing we can judge him on is his actions. Based on what he has said his plan is, I am excited for him to take the lead and for improvements to come to the United States. However, I know it will not be easy for many Americans to see this since this country is so politically divided. The help resulting from his plan will not exclude anyone; students, the elderly, POC, LGBTQ+ community, teens, workers, employers, America’s relationships with other countries, the environment, etc. will all benefit. Biden has plans laid out for student loan debt forgiveness, expansion of tuition-free colleges, universal preschool access, to repair relationships with US allies, reverse Trump’s immigration policies, build upon Obamacare, work to eliminate bias in the Criminal Justice System, create stronger laws for the protection of minorities, invest in green energy, and rally the rest of the world to act more quickly on curbing emissions by rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, just to name a few of his many inspiring ideas. Economically, Biden will extend loans to small businesses, increase direct money payments to families, there will be an additional $200 in Social Security payments per month, rescinding Trump-era tax cuts, he supports raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, and will invest 300 billion dollars in US-made materials, services, research, and technology. Biden also has developed an excellent agenda for perhaps the most pressing issue: COVID-19. He plans to provide free testing for all, hire 100,000 people to set up a national contact-tracing program, at least 10 testing centers in every state, do his best to make all governors mandate wearing masks, call upon federal agencies to deploy resources, and give more coherent national guidance through federal experts. These plans will not only provide support to many Americans but will also strengthen this country as a whole.

I am convinced that Biden is exactly what this country needs to get back on the right track. Even if one is not exactly a Biden “fan”, they can not resist the fact that at least one of these ideas will benefit them. Succoring citizens is not something that should be politicized, specifically when so many are struggling. It is natural to fear the unknown, especially when this country is coming out of four years of misery. However, anyone is better than Trump, and if Biden acts on his aspirations there is little to nothing to fear regarding his presidency. In just a few short days this country will hopefully be taking a 180-degree turn in a better direction. It is up to the citizens of this country to support Biden in order for him to make the most out of his presidency and achieve the tremendous things he is capable of doing. After the dark time America has seen with Trump, it is easy to doubt that we will ever return to our former glory and become the safe, virtuous place America once was. However, Biden is the carrier of new hope and is here to stop America from sinking.
