After only playing four games in their regular season,  Pelham Varsity Hockey team was put into quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure. However, that didn’t stop them as they went into the playoffs, ranking 4th in the Lower Hudson Valley.

In their quarterfinal match up on March 10, the Pelicans played against 5th ranked Scarsdale. Defeating the Raiders 4-2, freshman goalie Nick Sanella had 42 saves. Goals were scored by sophomores Louie Marcellino and Luke Green and junior Ben Rosenberg. Though Scarsale scored the first goal, the team came back as Marcellino scored what seemed to be the winning goal in the third period.

Going into the semifinals on March 11, the Pelicans would be facing top-ranked Mamaroneck. In a close game, Pelham fell short 5-3 against the Tigers. Goals were scored by freshmen Will Crotty and juniors Henry Smith and Ben Rosenberg– each had a piece. Sanella also had 23 saves in the game.

Senior captain Myles Difricso said, “Though it was a shortened season, I am so happy we still got to play all together one last time. It was a tough loss to Mamaroneck but I am beyond thankful for my 3 years on the team”.
