Olivia Medrano Goes to Tennis State Championships
November 15, 2021
Olivia Medrano, a sophomore on the Pelham Girls Varsity Tennis Team is headed to the New York state championships after a phenomenal season. This is Medrano’s first year on the team but she has been playing long before her time on the varsity team. Medrano was able to qualify for states during sectionals where she came in fourth place out of 64 girls that competed and won several matches to gain this title.
“I was super excited to qualify for states, especially because my qualifying match was a very long and tough game against an amazing player” said Medrano.
The NY state tennis championship will be held from October 27 to October 30 in Schenectady, NY. In order to prepare in states, Medrano has been playing tennis and working out everyday at her club, as well as taking part in mental health talks with her coaches. Senior and captain of the girls varsity tennis team Paige Felgner commends Medrano for her accomplishments this season
“Liv Medrano was injured for a good part of the beginning of the season but once she was cleared to play she played amazing. Towards the end of the season Liv subbed in for our typical first singles player when she was unable to play. This gave Liv an opportunity to show how strong of a player she is. She did really well in singles and this eventually led her to qualify for sectionals. She’s a great player and has a really good attitude and I had a great time playing with her this year.”
