On the first day of school, a new furry friend was welcomed into Pelham Memorial High School. Arthur Stagliano, a F1B Goldendoodle is the service dog of English teacher, Ms. Stagliano. Arthur is a hard worker, and he follows Ms. Stagliano at all times to alert her when her medical disability needs addressing.
Ms. Stagliano adopted Arthur at 8 weeks old, and he is 2 now. “Arthur’s training started from day 1, and I followed a daily training schedule until he was old enough to start training with his dog trainers.” Stagliano says.
Being able to have Arthur in the school was a two year journey, but finally his training was complete, and he could join Ms. Stagliano in the classroom. All students and their guardians were informed of Arthur if they had a class where he would be present. This was done in case students had allergies, or fear of dogs so they could switch out if needed.
On the first day of school, Arthur was welcomed into the school by faculty and students. Arthur is a very calm and controlled dog. “My students and colleagues have been wonderful.” Stagliano says. At times he is so quiet, you don’t even notice he is there.
All of Ms. Stagliano’s classes reside in room 105E, which is in the library. This means that Arthur remains in the library all day and there are no worries about bumping into a dog in the hallways.
It is clear to say that Arthur Stagliano is a wonderful addition to the Pelham community. Feel free to visit Ms. Stagliano and Arthur in the library, but make sure to ask permission before petting him, he is working at all times.
