The PMHS Band, Chorus, and Orchestra put on the annual POPS Fundraiser Concert March 6 in the Middle School Gym. The theme of the concert was The Beatles. This is the first time the band, orchestra, and chorus have played together in at least 10 years.
“I really liked how the music teachers had the idea to bring us all together,” said senior band student Kate Gristina. “It was a great experience to have for my last pops concert.”
The orchestra, directed by Raffi Froundjian, played “Eleanor Rigby” and “Winding Road”. The chamber chorus, directed by Maria Abeshouse, “Here Comes The Sun” and “Because”. Next was a performance of “Yesterday” by the PMHS AcaPelicans. The concert chorus played a Beatles Love Song Medley. The jazz band played two songs, and the stage band played a Symphonic Beatles medley. Finally, the concert wrapped up with “Ob La Di, Ob La Da” performed by all ensembles together.
“I loved the Beatles theme because I was really excited to perform such iconic songs,” said Gristina. “I was also excited for my family who also loves the Beatles.”
Beatles-themed music department t-shirts were available for sale for 20 dollars at the concert and baked goods were for sale. The department raised money for various costs, including buying and maintaining instruments.
…..The concert was originally scheduled for February 15 but was pushed back several weeks due to inclement weather.
“It was kind of disappointing at the moment, but it worked out because it gave us more time to practice, so it could be even better,” said Gristina.
The Spring concerts are coming up in May and June.
