On October 1st, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter turned 100. Being the first former U.S. president to reach 100, Carter has surpassed the average age of most other US presidents by 6 years. After being in hospice care for over a year and a half, Carter was able to be surrounded with friends and family on a special day.
As a former president, navy officer, cancer survivor, and peanut farmer, Jimmy Carter has permanently engraved his legacy into society. His achievements were all recognized by his successors and other prominent politicians on his birthday. “To put it simply: I admire you so darn much,” said president Joe Biden on Tuesday. Ten days prior, Jimmy Carter’s legacy was also celebrated with a concert at the Fox Theater in Atlanta with performances by B-52 who played covers of the most popular songs of the band from the 1970s, The Allen Brothers, who had also previously raised a large sum of money for Carters successful presidential campaign in 1976. Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday was widely acknowledged and celebrated all across America.
