The girls’ basketball team is getting excited about their upcoming season, and starting confidently after their success last year. They ended with a very respectable record of 14-6 and made it to the section semifinals at the County Center. Even though they lost some very vital parts of their team, they are still calm and collected going into their new season with indispensable returners, such as seniors Taylor Green and Charlotte Marion, junior Charlotte Gomprecht, sophomore Emma Namba, and freshmen Valendena Arakas, Colleen Sheehy, and Brooke Green. The team put up good fights in their recent scrimmages against North Rockland, Westlake, Ursuline, and Ossining.
Sophomore returner Emma Namba states, “The season will definitely be different without some of the players from last year but the team has been working hard to come into the season strong and ready.”
In their first official game against Yonkers Montessori Academy, they had a thrilling win ending in a score of 65-43. Some standout players of the game included Taylor Green with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Colleen Sheehy with 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Valendena Arakas with 11 points, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. This win would not have been possible without the whole team though, and their excitement toward the game got the whole gym electrified for what is to come for the rest of their season. The Pelicans are pumped up after their first-game victory. Make sure to be in attendance for the rest of their games including the Christmas Tournament on December 27 and December 28.
