…..At 9:10 AM on Tuesday, December 3rd, at the intersection of Shore Road and Pelhamdale Avenue, a Tesla violently crashed into a sheet of rock at high speed. Upon impact with the rock, the car broke out in flames, and scattered dangerous lithium-ion batteries along the roadway. Attendants from Manor Auto, the gas station at the corner of the intersection, witnessed the crash and called the fire department. Gas station attendant Gavin McKenzie described it as “like a scene from a movie, I watched the car come down Pelhamdale Avenue full speed straight into the rocks.” Witnesses attempted to approach the vehicle with fire extinguishers, but were unable to safely approach. McKenzie mournfully described the moments following the impact., “Wwe tried to go with the fire extinguishers, but the battery kept exploding.” It took the Pelham Manor Fire Department about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames due to the incessant explosions of the car’s lithium-ion batteries. The vehicle also damaged a utility pole, knocking out internet access to the surrounding area for a significant period of time. The New Rochelle School District superintendent issued a statement stating that the two victims, Jahmel and Trace Ledeatte, were parents of students in the district. Jahmel was the CEO of JBM Logistics Inc., and his wife Trace was a nurse at Mt. Sinai.
