Foreign Language Club Performs Holiday Songs at Nursing Home
January 19, 2018
The PMHS language clubs took their annual caroling trip to the Bayberry Care Center in New Rochelle on December 19. Each club prepared songs with a festive theme, including Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas in different languages. Students had the opportunity to interact with older residents of the facility, sharing stories and creating lasting memories.
During the month of December people come together to exult and reflect, while also establishing goals for the upcoming year. Families are allowed a brief hiatus from work and school to enjoy valuable time together. However, many occupants of the Bayberry nursing home lack direct access to the outside world. Consequently, it is difficult for them to experience the holiday season in its true wonder. Mrs. Guzman, the advisor of the Spanish Club, values seeing pleasure in others and wants to teach her students to feel the same way.
“We try to bring joy to those who are in a place where, perhaps, they don’t have an easy way to contact the ones they cherish,” Guzman said.
This event was organized by the advisors of the PMHS culture clubs. They are responsible for arranging songs that deliver a cheerful message and helping their students learn these songs in a short time.
