With winter sports at their peak and academics entering the third marking period, February can be an extremely busy and overwhelming month for some. Though Valentine’s Day can be a fun distraction, the indecision over what to get your significant other can cause even more stress. Fear not! Here are some simple and easy gift ideas to give that special someone on Valentine’s Day.

For an original and unique gift that shows the recipient how much you care, make a playlist of songs that reminds you of them. You can make it digital, or even burn it on a CD to make it a physical gift that they can hold on to.

Although in this day and age, printing photos and scrapbooking is becoming less and less common, it’s time to dust off your scissors and glue and recall your kindergarten cutting and pasting skills for the sake of Valentine’s Day. Print out cute pictures of you with your Valentine and paste them on colorful construction paper. Give it some flair with stickers and glitter, and voila! You now have a sentimental homemade gift for that special someone.

Putting down your feelings about your significant other in a heartfelt letter is a great way to express your emotions. Although it can be daunting to put pen to paper when it comes to writing love letters, spending time to think about your valentine is a great way to show you care. As a plus, the letter won’t cost anything aside from paper and ink. Even if your writing does not compare to Shakespeare, putting the effort in is thoughtful enough.

If these gifts come as a challenge, at the end of the day, you can never go wrong with food. To avoid the mundane and repetitiveness of heart shaped boxes of chocolates, try a slight variation on classic chocolate treats. Even if baking is not your forte, following the instructions for boxed cookie mix is actually very simple. Add heart shaped sprinkles to the batter to give it a festive twist, or frost them with pink or red frosting. No matter the outcome of your baking, it is truly the thought that counts that will make your valentine head over heels happy.

This Valentine’s Day, instead of falling into the trap of buying expensive and clichéd gifts, make your significant other something from the heart. Going the extra mile to hand make something unique for your valentine is more special than any box of chocolates will ever be.
