On January 28, Coach Pitrulle picked up his 100th win coaching Pelham girls varsity basketball, defeating Sleepy Hollow at home 62-31. Pitrulle has been instrumental in building the program over his 10 years of coaching and in the team’s successful 13-9 record this season.

“Pitrulle has been a big reason for the success of our season and the growth of the girls basketball program here,” senior captain Samantha Volpe said. “He has been a part of my growth on the court and in the classroom for the past five years. He knows how to pick our team up positively.”

Pitrulle is humble in his accomplishments, throwing much of the success of the team to the work of the students.

“This accomplishment speaks for the kids who have come through the program the past ten years and the relationships we have forged, that I cherish and wouldn’t give up,” Pitrulle said. “It speaks to having ten years of quality athletes, of great athletes and people coming in and out of the program, so this is a credit to them. It also speaks to the relationships forged, like Katie McCarthy, a former player who is now the junior varsity coach.”

In a successful season, including an upset playoff win over Yorktown, it was fitting for Coach Pitrulle to reach this milestone with this group of players.
