The girls varsity basketball team had a promising season, as they made it all the way to the section quarterfinals. A key reason for their success was the contributions made by senior captain Samantha Volpe.

Volpe has been on the team since 8th grade and leads the girls basketball program in points, rebounds, and blocks. This past season, Volpe was named League Player of the Year. This was Volpe’s fourth straight year being an all-league nomination as she capped off her career with over 1,200 points, 800 rebounds, and 250 blocks.

Varsity coach Mr. Pitrulle has been with Sam throughout a great bulk of her basketball career and has been able to witness her development as a player.

“When Sam is on the floor, coaching is easy,” Coach Pitrulle said. “She has a knack for putting the ball in the basket. If our offense is stagnant, getting the ball to Sam can be a very effective play.”

“Sam is a great captain because she gives it everything she has.” Her teammate and fellow captain, senior Meredith Kuster said, “She cares about everyone on the team and always puts her best foot
forward.”
