In March, senior Claudia Dodge and sophomore Zoe Winburn represented Pelham at the New York State Championship at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in Staten Island. Prior to the competition, both athletes performed with excellent numbers at the state qualifying meet. Dodge ran a 1:38.55 in the 600 meter dash, earning her second place in the qualifiers and a championship spot. Winburn had a personal best jump height of 5’0’’, also managing to claim second place and qualify for states.

Prior to her event, Dodge faced an unfortunate foot injury that made it difficult to run. Still, she persisted and competed to run an impressive time of 1:43.28. Winburn was able to jump a respectable 4’8’. While neither athlete qualified for awards, both displayed determination and skill. Dodge made her last track meet of high school one to remember, as she has moved on to lacrosse in the next season. Winburn will be continuing her track career in the spring.

Winter track coach Brian Leighton said, “Both athletes had tremendous seasons personally and were even more impactful leaders of the women’s track team this past winter.”
