Athlete Of The Issue: Cindy Wang

Asia Bertuccioli and

Sophomore Cindy Wang who has dominated the girls varsity swimming and diving season is the athlete of the issue. Her ability to be an all event athlete has helped carry the team and herself to day two of Section finals once again. The team has gone through a lot of bumps in the road as they continue to be in the top division against other schools with 25+ girls compared to Pelham who has a roster of 11. She has been an asset to the team, which is very young and she has been essential to scoring points.

Wang has been swimming for 3 years on PVGSD and for 6 years at the Wolverines Aquatic Club under her coach Carle Fierro. This is Cindy’s third year qualifying for sectionals and has big prospects as a young athlete. Due to COVID -19, State championships were cancelled meaning sectionals was the last major meet. Wang finished her season with a second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.46  and 6th in the 200 IM going a 2:11.07  in the section.

She says, “ For the last two years, I was just constantly gaining time but recently I’ve started to put more effort and motivation into it again and I’m starting to drop. My mentality is alot stronger, which is a huge contributor and so when I do well, I’m motivated even more to do better.”
