The Young Playwrights Festival 2021 Presented On Line

Young Playwrights Festival

Each year Pelham Memorial High School’s drama club, Sock ‘n’ Buskin, stages The Young Playwrights Festival (YPF). Student writers from every grade are invited to submit short original works, and a committee consisting of the YPF presidents (this year  graduating seniors Ella Burns and Vikram Jallepalli) and advisers Mr. Beck and Mr. Schleifer select five or six of the most interesting submissions for production.

The plays are directed, rehearsed and performed by only the students from start to finish, so this is one of PMHS’  events that is completely student-run.

This year, though the pandemic prevented live theatre from taking place, YPF would not be daunted and, taking its cue from the school’s virtual productions of “The Diary of Anne Frank” and the musical “Working”, the festival too is being presented in a virtual format!

In addition to writing, casting, directing, and performing, this year students added cinematography and editing to their list of skills. The Pel Mel is happy to provide the platform to view YPF’s work, so you can view their effort. Enjoy it!  Please, also give  a virtual round of applause to those YPF members who are graduates of 2021 as they will have their talents on display as members of Sock ‘n’ Buskin here for the last time. Enjoy the “show”!
