Centuries ago during Halloween, people started wearing eerie outfits to represent themselves as evil fiends or demons. In the past people read verses, sang songs, and participated in folk plays for food. Over time, Halloween traditions have progressed and changed to include handing out candy and dressing up in scary or funny costumes.  

The earliest costumes ever worn were ghosts, skeletons, devils, and witches. Otherworldly creatures such as Frankenstein, the Mummy, and Dracula were widely known from folk stories and popular culture. Their influence at the time made them each a favored costume.
