At the start of the new school year, Pelham got a new Spanish teacher for both middle and high schoolers. Mr. Geoffrey Schenker has taught for thirteen years and previously taught at Whisconier Middle School, Harrison High School, and the Dwight School.

A graduate of York College, Shecker went to Manhattanville for his masters degree and Mercy College for a second masters degree. He is currently doing a doctoral program at the University of Illinois.

“It’s been a challenging year coming from COVID and starting a new school,” Schenker said.

His goal for students is that they walk away from the course with an understanding of how to communicate with the Spanish language effectively.

Mr. Schenker finds teaching to be a way for him to push himself. He considers himself to be a bit of an introvert, but to be at the front of the classroom one must be an extrovert

“Being in front of students everyday is pushing myself out of my comfort zone, but I enjoy watching students learn a new language,” Schenker said .
