On October 15, Pelham Memorial High School had their annual homecoming and pep rally. All of Pelham Memorial High School’s fall sports teams dressed up and represented their team in elaborate outfits during the pep rally parade. After the parade, the Varsity Football team, Varsity Volleyball team, and Girls Varsity Soccer team each had their own homecoming games.
The pep rally parade included Girls and Boys Cross Country, Girls and Boys Soccer, Varsity Football, Girls Tennis, Volleyball, Girls Swimming, Cheerleading and the Pelham High School Band. The students started filling Ingels’ Field during the ninth period and waited for the teams to start the parade. The band played Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana and the school’s very own Pelican Parade, the school song written in the 1920s.
The teams marched around the field throwing candy and waving their signs in the air, while music blasted in the background. Some themes that teams dressed up in for pep rally included sleepover for the Volleyball team and doctors for the Boys Varsity Soccer team. The Pelham Cheerleaders performed a routine in the middle of Ingels field, dancing and flying holding “Go For Gold” signs in the air.
Elizabeth Ross, cheerleading team captain, said, “I was super hyped because my team did excellent during the pep rally that day. After the game, I was tired but really proud of the performance of both the cheer team and the football team.”
The varsity football team had an overwhelming victory in their homecoming game against Tappan Zee winning with a final score 30-7.
Connor To, one of the football team’s captains, said, “I am most excited to play in front of all of my family and friends, and to have the whole town cheering us on. I think that we are well prepared and confident we will come out with a win.”
The volleyball team faced off against Sleepy Hollow in the middle school gym, leading to a 3-1 set victory. Meanwhile, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team defeated Harrison with a final score of 3-1.
