Milan Otondi, a sophomore on the Varsity Track team, is a pre-state qualifier and ranked sixth in section one overall. Otondi placed second at sectionals and has a personal high jump record of 4’9. Otondi is a record-breaker this year with a long jump record of 15’5 and 16 medals from her long, triple and high jump, and the 4×200 relay events.

Otondi is a very committed pentathlete. She does five-track events: shot put, long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles, and the 800m.

Otondi said, “My biggest goal is to jump 5’0 in the high jump though. I would also like to qualify for pre-states in the pentathlon. The track team’s bond was amazing. We all went out to glover in the cold for two months straight every day.”

The difficulty of going against so many Westchester schools had increased significantly, especially since the indoor track season was canceled for the past two years.

Otondi said, “Especially in the indoor track I would say I have raced and jumped against almost all Westchester schools. It is difficult because every school has its own talented runners and jumpers.”

Milan has worked hard to shine through all the other runners and jumpers; she’s gone all the way and even qualified for pre-states on February 14 in the high jump.

Otondi said “Now I have shifted my focus to improving rather than placing well. My teammates always know that if we are at a track meet, they’ll see me with a medal on the way out.”
