The coach of Pelham Varsity Hockey for 37 years, Ed Witz, announced his retirement from coaching hockey. Witz began coaching Pelican hockey in 1984, and since has tallied up a grand total of 513 wins for Pelham Hockey. Witz announced his retirement two days after winning the Division II state championship with PMHS boys hockey in March.

Witz reflected back on an amazing coaching career, containing two state championships for Pelham, saying how lucky he has been as the Pelham community, especially parents and athletes of Pelham hockey have been so supportive of him and the team throughout his career.

Witz said, “The state championship is so rare, and honestly is the best thing I’ve ever experienced in all time involved in sports — as a kid, as an adult, coach, or player. To be a part of two? Wow, insane.”

Though he won’t be there to defend the nest, Witz is hopeful about the future of both Pelham hockey and the Pelham Youth Hockey Association.
