Pelham Memorial High School Welcomes New Staff

Casey Creutz, News Editor, Senior

Mr Guerra is a new math teacher at Pelham Memorial High School. He is teaching pre-calc, geometry, and geo-trig this year, and is looking to build a strong rapport with his students. Guerra is a Bronx native, currently living in New Rochelle, and he spent eighteen years teaching in the New York City public school system before joining the PMHS community. He describes Pelham as inviting and close-knit, a good reflection of his own philosophy as an educator. This year, Mr. Guerra hopes to start a video game club. As a message to his students, he wants to say that sometimes you need to make mistakes to keep moving forward: in math and in video games.

Ms. Zahed is the new school social worker, from Stonybrook Long Island. She has experience as a social worker in a different district but was drawn to Pelham for its diversity, community strength, and prioritizing students. A school social worker, according to Ms. Zahed, is someone who students can pop in and talk to about anything to get something off their chest, seek help, or just decompress before their next class. Ms. Zahed feels that she has something to learn from every district she’s worked in and she is looking forward to getting to know her students and finding out what makes Pelham students unique.
