Status Report: Boys Hockey

The boys hockey team is coming off one of the greatest seasons in Pelham history last year, ending in a near undefeated season and a state championship. The team lost State Most Valuable Player Louie Marcellino and star defensemen Eric Elbery to prep school. Senior Captain Ben Rosenberg, who scored the Overtime game winning goal in the State Championship, is a huge loss as well.

The Pelicans know that they have big shoes to fill without some of their last year’s starters, but remain confident in their abilities this year. Senior Captain Angus Deeney says, “It is true that we lost most of our players from last year but we’re still the top dogs in the league. We are the defending champions so if other teams want to take that from us they can try, but I promise you it won’t be easy. This year’s team is no different, we are still hungry so we’re going for seconds.”

This year’s schedule is far from easy facing teams like Rivertown, John Jay, Rye, and Suffern in the first few games. The team knows the challenge ahead of them but everyone is still confident, including former players. Last year’s State MVP Louie Marcellino says, “I know what the boys are capable of, last year wouldn’t have happened without them so what’s to say they can’t do it again. Don’t be surprised when you see them in Buffalo this season.” With a lot of pressure from last year’s success the boys will try to repeat the state title.
