Bowling

A new sport has been introduced at Pelham Memorial High School: bowling. The sport will be played in the winter, with both a boys and girls team practicing 2-3 times a week. The team practices at Bowlerland in the Bronx, where they also hope to host home matches throughout the season. Matches will be played on Tuesdays, where the Pelicans will face off against Mamaroneck, Woodlands, New Rochelle, and White Plains high schools, along with others. Five bowlers will play in matches against other schools.
“They’ve been trying to get a bowling team for a while, and it finally got approved,” said head coach April Clapp. “I personally bowl in two leagues, and I’m excited to coach something that I actually do.”
Their first match was held November 28 against Yonkers, which the team won. The girls bowling team is currently number one in their league, with senior Kaitlin Sheehy leading in points for the entire league. Pelham Bowling will be an exciting new sport to add to the school’s already diverse offering.
