The Winter Track season has been greatly successful. On January 19th, the team competed in the League Championship, with many athletes earning personal bests. For the boys, Feliciano earned a PR in both the 55-meter and 300-meter races, placing 11th and 8th, respectively. For distance, Brayden Clark, Owen Irving, and Edward Scott all PR’d in the 1000-meter race, with Scott also PRing in the 1600-meter race. Elliott Levine joined Scott in PRing in the 1600m with a time of 5:11. In the field, William Stobart placed 5th in shotput with a mark of 37-4. The girls were as impressive as the boys, as Mia Sakran medaled twice in the 600-meter race, racing a personal best, and placed second in the 1500-meter racewalk. Henry also earned two medals in the 55m and 300m races. Riley Campbell then got a 1st place medal in the 3000-meter race with a time of 11:01, winning by more than ten seconds. For the girls, other medalists include: Virelai Preftakes, Sadie Ashlock, Riley Schindler, and Eleanor Condon.
Most recently, the County Championships took place for qualified athletes. The girls showed their strength in numbers with 11 competing. Sakran continued her strong racewalking season with a time of 10:00 and an 11th-place finish. In the 1500m, five girls competed with Ashlock and Schindler, both earning top 15 positions. Schindler also placed 6th in the 3000m race, only two seconds behind Campbell, who placed 5th. The boys showed some promise with Feliciano racing under 40 seconds in the 300m and Levine breaking the five-minute barrier with a time of 4:59 in the 1600m.
The team looks forward to the next season after a great showing this year. Impactful seniors like Elliott Levine, Riley Schindler, and Sadie Ashlock are graduating. But thankfully, underclassmen like Riley Campbell, Mia Sakran, Eleanor Condon, Nehemiah Feliciano, Winston Pereira, Brayden Clark, and many more are showing great promise and have already started to step up. The track team is moving toward its spring season and is looking to perform as it did this winter.
