On November 10, 2025, former Pelham student Hernan A. Kenny passed away. His sudden passing has shocked and broken the hearts of the Pelham community, who grieve for him. With a wife and two kids, Hernan will leave a lasting legacy within the town.
A former Pelham Memorial High School alumnus, Hernan was widely respected throughout his graduating class of 2009. He enjoyed sports such as football and lacrosse, and took courses like Criminal History. Those who taught him remember him fondly, commenting on his good nature. Hernan’s friends and family highlight his kindness, loyalty, and humor. After high school, Hernan went on to receive a degree in finance from Fordham University and began a successful career in the business world.
Hernan displayed strength and resilience throughout his life, as displayed by his recovery from a near fatal car accident. During his senior year, Hernan was badly injured when hit by a car while fleeing from a hit-and-run accident. He sustained many injuries, causing him to spend a large portion of his senior year undergoing treatments. Hernan’s leg was injured to the point where reconstructive surgery was needed. In the wake of this injury, the Pelham community rallied together to support him, organizing a charity basketball event within the Middle School Gym. Named “Hands for Hernan”, the charity involved Middle School Faculty playing against the High School Faculty. T-shirts and buttons were sold with Hernan’s football number on them, ultimately helping to pay for his medical costs. The success of this fundraiser is just one event that captures the love that Pelham’s community has for Hernan.
At this time, a GoFundMe campaign has been created with the goal of helping support Hernan’s family. The fundraiser aims to help pay for his children’s education and healthcare. However, this fundraiser does not fill the void that Hernan’s passing has left in the hearts of those who cared deeply for him. The memories so many hold of him will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
